Chapter Recognition – Safety 2017
Jun 29, 2017
On June 20, 2017 at Safety 2017 in Denver, all of the Region V chapters were recognized for achieving the silver level or higher through the Chapter Operations and Management Tool (COMT) for the 2015-2016 chapter year. The tool measures how well the chapter is providing services to its members and the surrounding community. We were the ONLY region to have all chapters at this level.
Region V Safety Professional of the Year Award – 2017
Jun 29, 2017
Georgi Popov was recognized at the April Heart of America Chapter meeting and again at Safety 2017 as the Region V Safety Professional of the Year. Dr. Popov is currently an Associate Professor of Safety at the University of Central Missouri in the School of Environmental, Physical and Applied Sciences. He continues to create courses for both undergraduate and graduate programs. He remains at the forefront of the profession through constant research and immersing himself into practical situations. Even with his current credentials he continues to obtain continuing education and expresses this importance to his students. He focuses on the importance of ASSE as a career long opportunity, not just a student organization. Dr. Popov has served, and continues to serve on various boards and committees to further the advancement of the safety profession. He is a frequent speaker at events such as, the ASSE Annual Symposium, the ASSE National Professional Development Conference and the National Ergonomics Conference to name a few. He is known nationally for his expertise in risk assessment. His book Risk Assessment – A Practical Guide to Assessing Operational Risks, with its companion website, is an exceptionally useful tool to students, professors, and safety professionals alike.
